“Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.”
– Elizabeth Stone
Parent & Family Counseling at the Louisville Family Center is not another set of strategies that will tell you how you “should be” better parents. Instead, parenting is viewed through a holistic lens, seeing the family journey as a special learning opportunity.
Counseling gives you the chance to have your unique struggle be heard, while also being offered a new perspective, shining a light on areas of discomfort that may want some attention. Rather than telling you that something is broken, we support each member of the family in finding their way to loving the person they already are.
Counseling might be right for you if…
You are an individual or couple wanting accompaniment and/or counseling in your parenting or your own relationship.
Your family is seeking support in your relationships with one another and wanting to move away from battles and drama into more authentic ways of connecting.
Your family includes individuals with unique challenges or behaviors, such as trauma from adoption or birth, special needs or gender exploration.
Your family is going through a death in the family, a divorce, or some other life challenge, and you feel you could benefit from some outside perspective.
A parent or adolescent in the family is experiencing depression, anxiety or wanting support in contemplating their purpose in life.
You and someone you care about (brother, sister, partner, etc.) would like help in transforming the tensions and conflicts in your relationships into opportunities for healing.
What is the approach?
We believe that everyone is moving toward health the best way they know how. We also believe that within the safe container of the counseling relationship there exists an opportunity to transcend beyond what we can experience alone.
There are many different approaches to Counseling or Psychotherapy – the method we use could be described as Transpersonal Accompaniment. The “Accompaniment” part means that we are not hear to direct your journey, but instead to offer support and guidance, inviting you to look through new lenses.
“Transpersonal” literally means “beyond the personal,” essentially combining Eastern & Western approaches for a broader perspective on the human experience. This allows for an integration of spiritual concepts such as mindfulness and awareness, with techniques from scientific research on the brain and emotional intelligence.
